Our SAQA Executive Director, MARTHA SIELMAN, would like us all to have a chance to bid on the amazing art work by some of the best of the best SAQA Artists from their Benefit Auction donations in years past - all belonging to Michelle Hardman. Please take time to see all of the art work and how you might be able to support SAQA with your bid!

We running a one-week auction of former SAQA member Michelle Hardman's collection, starting on February 14th.  There are some gorgeous pieces by Noriko Endo, Therese May, Susan Shie, Pam RuBert, Chiaki Dosho, Dolores Miller, and more.

Michelle was one of SAQA’s biggest Benefit Auction supporters.  She loved purchasing the quilts, connecting with the artists, and displaying the collection in her home.  When she learned that her cancer was terminal, she decided that she wanted to donate her purchases back to SAQA so that they could be enjoyed by others.

I wanted to make sure that you were aware of this lovely opportunity. <http://saqa.com/choice>

Embroidery Workshop ONLINE

My Gran taught me to sew at 11 years old – on an old treadle Singer sewing machine: what a gift she gave me  – it started a life long passion for textiles and embroidery.  I offer you my stitch and embroidery knowledge to you during this intensive 3 week workshop.
Delivered ONLINE via videos, notes and an interactive classroom you’ll learn stitch techniques to make you a confident and independent embroiderer.
This workshop brings together information from a collection of other sessions: Manipulating FabricAppliqué and FMEPainting with Thread and FME with Dissolvable plus offering thoughts on mounting and framing textile pieces.
This workshop starts on Monday 2nd April and last 3weeks until Sunday 22nd April 2018 – please take a look at the student reviews below 🙂

tarot lovers exhibit poster image

 February 10 to May 27, 2018

Looking for something special to celebrate Valentine's Day?

Bring your love to the Wellington County Museum and Archives to see the group show
The Tarot Lovers: Works of Heart.

Exhibit Opening Reception: Friday, February 9, 7:00 to 9:00 pm
Remarks at 8:00 pm

A follow-up to the Elora Tarot project of 2013, this exhibition focuses on
The Lovers card of the tarot deck with over 45 artists work being displayed.

The Lovers card generally signifies a love match. There is often a cupid present in the image, or some reference to divine intervention in the joining of the Lovers, because they are considered to be soul pairings.

At other times, the Lovers card would appear to prompt a question about what kind of mate
you want in your life, and what kind of life you wish to live. Explored in the exhibit are modern concepts of lovers, which are not usually depicted in the traditional tarot cards. This exhibition is also a reaction to the many political situations around the world that seem to be attempting to incite violence and intolerance between people.

What better antidote to hatred and divisiveness than that of the love and togetherness found in the tarot Lovers?

For more information please follow the exhibit on Facebook.
