MY CORNER OF THE WORLD Exhibitions extended at Stratford Perth Museum through October 10, 2016..... a special window of time now to visit the beautiful quilts for those who have missed seeing the art this summer!

EXCITING NEWS - My Corner of the World Exhibitions move to Thunder Bay in October!

We are so pleased to announce that the Thunder Bay Museum has commissioned the joint My Corner of the World and My Corner of the World CANADA exhibitions for three months beginning on November 1 - January 29, 2017. This is a wonderful opportunity to see the amazing collection of Art Quilts by SAQA artists from around the world move into Canada and Ontario's northern areas and be available to the communities nearby for an extended period of time.

As a result, the STRATFORD PERTH MUSEUM in Stratford Ontario has extended the Exhibition in their location through October 10, 2016... hoping those of you who have not had the opportunity to see the 80 amazing  quilts will do just that and make the trip to Stratford before the quilts move on to Thunder Bay.

Once again, Thank You to each of our Canadian and International artists represented in this beautiful and so very exciting collection of art quilts! Special thanks to Micaela Fitzsimmons and her staff at the Stratford Perth Museum for a summer of welcoming the many hundreds of visitors to our Exhibition. And to Bill Reker, SAQA Exhibitions/Shipping Coordinator and the SAQA Executive and Exhibitions Committee members for arranging for the MY CORNER OF THE WORLD exhibition to become a reality as the first traveling exhibition of international SAQA artists work to come to Canada.

The Thunder Bay Museum is located in downtown Thunder Bay South, kitty-corner to City Hall near the intersection of Donald and May Streets. Our street address is 425 Donald St. East.

A two-part exhibition, it consists 40 pieces from SAQA Canadian member artists, and 40 pieces from SAQA International member artists. The artwork includes representational as well as abstract pieces, portraying a wide range of interpretations of the theme – from the geographical to the meta-physical.

Colour, the Quilt Artists' Way

Colour represents the most exciting of the visual elements for creative expression. Effective use of colour brings a variety of moods into your work.

Come explore the aesthetic value of colour as you gain a strong understanding of colour principles, tonal gradation, colour mixing, discord, contrast and illusion. You will create a series of small compositions as you develop themes and effects in your quilts that tell a story or make a definitive statement. Visual support materials will be provided during the course to inspire and stimulate your creativity.

Our 2016 Fall Term at St. Lawrence College course is all about exploring COLOUR-PLAY and enjoying the experience both together with classmates and in independent study.  Demonstrations, samples and hands-on study will include the use of contemporary techniques to illustrate the extensive exploration and updating of contemporary processes for developing dynamic COLOUR relationships as you plan and work with fabric and mixed media in your choice of medium and layout for stitching and embellishment.

Course components include the development of personal inventories of colour samples
created through the use of paints, dyes and other forms of color specific materials throughout the
12 weeks we will spend together in the classroom.. some fabrics and all of the paints and dyes are supplied
for classroom samples as a part of your materials fee.

Be inspired to take your work in all new project at a time!
UPCOMING SHOWS for 2017...
Exhibition ready work is a goal for many of our students and we will cover all aspects from paper layout, planning and selecting fabrics, embellishments, threads and framing/finishing techniques.

Machine work as well as hand stitch studies focusing on all new work are planned.  Students wishing to work within the guidelines of tradition may certainly work on quilt projects, and those who are brave enough to experiment may go one step farther to create new fabric in colors and dye patterns for use in their personal and original designs for art quilts and wall art or wearables.

One particular focus will be MODERN QUILT design and assembly techniques... using your designers eye to bring the fabrics you have in your stash to life as you develop all new wall and bed quilts that are lively, colourful and destined to be a delight for family an friends both at home and in exhibition opportunities.

We love to have all new students in the course, and welcome returning students wanting to work within the context of shared studio time with like-minded friends. Every student will benefit from the focused classroom creativity and shared techniques.

Visit the St. Lawrence College Part Time Studies Registration pages at in early December to register. Your questions directly to me are most welcome: or
