REGIONAL MEETING CANCELLED in Ottawa on Tuesday, October 21st...

Please be advised that the Tuesday, October Regional meeting in Ottawa at the Council for the Arts, Micaela Fitch Board Room, has been CANCELLED. The timing was just not right for the Ottawa and area members to attend. There is not a SAQA Regional meeting planned for the Ottawa area at this point for the balance of the year.
A November gathering of the artists to celebrate the return of the SYNTHESIS II artwork to Ottawa for pick-up by the artists MAY be scheduled. Please watch for notification in your mailbox.
Pastiche, Robin Fields
Again, many thanks to PAT CAFFERY for all of the work, the hours and dollars spent driving to deliver and pick up the SYNTHESIS II Exhibition pieces at the many outstanding venues it visited over the past several years.
Please do keep tuning into SAQA Reports from our Executive Director, Martha Sielman and the  "ART QUILT NEWS" coming to your mailbox weekly. If you have items that need to be posted for area news, please send them along to Bethany Garner, SAQA Central Co-Rep at

REMINDER/ suggested alternative plans for SAQA Central Canada - Ottawa area Regional Meeting....

Greetings all Ottawa and Area Members...

We have graciously been offered a beautiful Meeting Room at ARTS COUNCIL of Ottawa in their Micaela Fitch Board Room at 2 Daly Street, Ottawa on the 21st of October from 10 am to 2 pm. Thanks to Mary Pal for making the meeting room appointment for us.

More than a few members have reported a conflict for the Oct. 21st date, and it is important for us to be able to get together with as many other Regional members in and near our Ottawa area as possible.
If the Tuesday October 21st will not work for you this time, would a Saturday work better for you?

We are certainly open to suggestions for preferred activities - a lunch meeting, a playdate that could be an all day gathering with quick SAQA updates, an exchange of some preferred activities for meetings and perhaps some time to work on a new technique or get into a small project.
These options would require a bit of planning and a good space. Please share your ideas! If you have a suggestion for a meeting place or can volunteer to host a meeting, do let us know.

Let me suggest three alternative dates in November that might be possibilities:
(please RSVP your availability for one or more):

Saturday November 15th in or near Ottawa (with a volunteer host)

Thursday, November 20th in Ottawa, downtown

Saturday, November 22nd, TBA with a volunteer host
(SYNTHESIS II traveling pieces will be available for pick up at this meeting per Pat Caffery, Curator for Synthesis II, for those who are in the Ottawa area.)

Hoping you will get back to me and that we can arrange time this fall before the Holidays creep up on us for a Regional Parlour Meeting, to meet new members and renew friendships/exchange ideas with those you know well and love to see.

RSVP to Bethany Garner, SAQA Co- Rep.,

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

LYNNE MORIN to visit FIBREWORKS Kingston as Guest Instructor, November 7-9, 2014. Please join us...

Lynne uses fibre and found objects in her the most beautiful ways, ensuring that her viewers are treated with  sumptuous layering of different textures, types of fibre including felt, silk, wool, slubbed and raised surfaces, loose fibres, stitched threads and embellishments and a most exciting new addition to her work is PAINT!

On her weekend with our students at FIBREWORKS KINGSTON WEEKEND WORKSHOP #2, November 7-9, 2014, Lynne will explore many of the unusual but extremely effective techniques she brings into her new work - and yes, it may appear to be "THE SAME - BUT  DIFFERENT" you are right... and the best way to explore using new and exciting media and techniques is to study with and learn from those in the Fibre Community who are doing just that!

The data collecting - adding bits and pieces of  knowledge/techniques as work evolves  in exploration and play with fabric, threads, sketches and planning new work over the weekend with Lynne with allow students the opportunity to stretch in all new directions ...

Yes, there will be painting of canvas... removed in the classroom  from a frame, painted and embellished with the addition of fabrics to enhance design elements, and certainly by the use of machine or hand stitch that is designed to support the direction each student sees as the next step toward their finished work. The goal is creating work that is exhibition ready, as the painted and stitched canvas will be re-mounted to the frame for display. Tips and tricks Lynne has learned as she developed her new series for 2014/15 will be the topic for discussion, with lots of individual attention for each student over the two day, intensive learning weekend at St. Lawrence College.

We invite you to join us - a few seats are available in the workshop weekend. Don't miss the chance to study with Lynne - her design savvy and hugely well recognized ability to coach and support students as they grow into their personal Exhibition strategies. Lynne's work is seen across Ontario and Canada in Galleries, solo exhibitions and in private collections.

Lynne Morin's "Sunflower" - painted canvas with fibre

Registration is open... visit Lynne's Workshop Page on the sidebar here, and send your registration soon to make sure YOU will be a part of the fun and learning opportunities. We can guarantee Lynne will be able to share information to make your design experience perhaps a bit of "THE SAME - but (surely) DIFFERENT" .
