Regional Meeting at Kit Vincent's home proved to be a wonderful day - wish you could have joined us!

A few good friends and SAQA members gathered on Saturday the 16th of August at the beautiful home/studio of Kit Vincent for our summer "playdate" with a focus on creating handmade beads and embellishments using Fimo and Primo polymer clay. Before the playtime got underway, we enjoyed sharing recent work in our "Creative Buffet" and marveled at some of the stunning new work being created in member studios this year... some heading to Quilts=ART=Quilts Jurying, other pieces on their way to local Exhibitions and some just created for members collections.
News of upcoming shows, Call to Entry opportunities and members Solo Shows was shared. Phillida Hargeaves Solo Show "NARROW SPACES" is currently being enjoyed in the Marianne Von Silfhout Gallery at the Brockville Campus, St. Lawrence College. The Kingston Fibre Artists will open their 2014 Show at the Kingston Frontenac Public Library on August 29th, with the Vernissage on Thursday evening, September 4, 2014. Everyone welcome.
We so enjoyed having SAQA member Frances Taylor from the Ottawa area with us as she brought with her many years of experience and numerous stunning examples of her work with polymer clay and embellishing techniques. Beautiful buttons, pins, clothing embellishments and more were shared and admired! Thank you so much for all of the tips and sharing of your expertise, shared supplies and tips Frances!
Robin Field led us off as she shared some of her uses of the clay in recent work, and members quickly caught on to the process of massaging the clay to soften a bit and feed through the pasta machines to blend colours and create the look of texture. Robin has focused in on creating pieces that she can used to represent specific focal point features for her textile work. She has created many exciting statement embellishments for her textile work using Primo and paint....

Following some time with the clay, members took time for an amazing Potluck Lunch with delicious salads, great shared time on the patio above the St. Lawrence and watching the ovens as the buttons and beads were put through the process of bake time for curing. Lovely results all around. So glad we had this day together... many thanks again to Kit for offering her beautiful home for our meeting/play in the studio.

The AGB is planning an announcement that afternoon with regards
to a new artist in residency opportunity being developed
to sponsor a textile artist.
The show will be well worth seeing any day you can make it, but please note this event for the Sunday, in case that might be of particular interest.

Heather Dubreuil and Helena Scheffer invite you to visit the upcoming Exhibition of the Lakeshore Artists Association

Every year, the Lakeshore Artists Association puts together a group show, “Art by the Lake”, on the beautiful grounds of Stewart Hall in Pointe Claire, Quebec.  On September 6 and 7, almost fifty members will set up tents to show and sell their work, with a portion of the proceeds going to benefit the John Abbott College Foundation. In the case of rain, the circus moves to the big tent of Stewart Hall.

SAQA member Helena Scheffer, a member of the LAA, will be show convenor and SAQA member Heather Dubreuil is delighted to be a Guest Artist. Amidst the painters, potters and mixed media artists, they hope to expand the audience for fibre art in the local community.

We do hope you can come by and say hello.
