February: Regional Members' News

Lots happening on the local front:
  • Some of our region's members are represented in the 500 Art Quilts book recently released by Lark Publications: Pamella Allen, Karen Goetzinger, Pat Hardie, Lynne Morin, Sylvia Naylor, Elaine Quehl, and Mary Ev Wyatt. Congratulations to you all!
  • Catherine Timm is having a show "Graphite and Fibre"  with a graphite artist at the Foyer Gallery, Festival Hall, Pembroke ON from March 1 to 28, 2010.  Opening reception is on Wed. Mar 3 from 6 to 8 pm.
  • Catherine will also be in the One of a Kind Spring Show in Toronto March 31 to April 4, 2010.
  • Several regional members belong to the Kingston Fibre Artists, whose "Inspiration and Exploration" Exhibition and Sale will be at the Kingston and Frontenac Public Library, Central Branch on Johnson Street in March.  Please call ahead (613.549.8888) to confirm room access.  The opening reception is March 7th from 2 to 4 pm.  
  • Paula Benjaminson will be teaching two Stampin’ Safari workshops at the Quilter’s Affair in Sisters, Oregon on July 5-6 and 8-9, 2010.  In the workshop, Paula teaches printing with hand-carved wooden blocks from Oshiwa Designs in Namibia, covering everything from choosing fabric paint, different techniques for preparing backgrounds, embossing velvet, and foiling with the blocks.  Info on the Stampin’ Safari workshops and other classes offered at the Quilter’s Affair 2010 can be found at www.stitchinpost.com.  Info on the Oshiwa blocks used in the workshop can be found at www.oshiwa.com.
  • Karen Goetzinger will be teaching a week-long workshop at the Ottawa School of Art - Shenkman Arts Centre campus - August 9-13 called Art Quilt: Cloth, Colour and Composition. Registration begins May 1. Also at OSAO - May 8-22 Altered States: Mixed Media Textile Surface Design - 3-all day sessions. Info will be posted on the OSA website.
  • Snapdragon Gallery has given Karen a solo show in the upper gallery. Opening reception is Sunday March 21 2-5 pm. Her piece "Acquiescence" (below)  will be in that show.
