Tell your friends, your mother, your workout coach - the more people who know about the Auction, the better!
 
 

There are 421 gorgeous pieces of art up for bid.  The action will start on Monday, September 9th at 2:00 Eastern.  Bid early and often to help promote the art quilt!

REMINDER - Regional Playdate/Gathering to be held in Elgin area on August 29th

Please join us for a summertime SAQA Central Canada meeting and afternoon Playdate at the cottage of Nancy Gall, SAQA Central member. Nancy has a summer home near Elgin which should make for a bit better drive for Ottawa/Perth  area members. New members/guests are welcome, but RSVP is required asap for planning purposes.

*Liquid Acrylic paint (1-3 colours)
* A sheet of plexiglass if you have it or if not, or heavy weight plastic in sheets large enough to cover sheets of tissue paper
* paint Brushes (foam or hair)
* small container for water , paper towels and masking tape

In case you had not had the reminder...Deadline for submissions is FRIDAY this week!



The Art Center is now accepting submissions for Quilts=Art=Quilts 2013! 
Quilts=Art=Quilts is the Schweinfurth Art Center's 33rd annual juried quilt exhibition. The Art Center has long-recognized the importance of quilts as a visual medium, and has been presenting quilts in an art gallery setting since 1981. Jurors select quilts based on overall quality of design, visual impact and originality. Prizes are awarded including $1000 for Best of Show. Opening weekend includes a reception, workshops and a brunch for artists and friends. This year's jurors are Rosalie Dace, Jo Anne Cooper and Lasse Antonsen as Prize Juror.   
 
Submissions are due  
August 16, 2013.

About the Jurors:
   
Rosalie Dace
Rosalie has a B.A., UED in Fine Art and English. She has been traveling and teaching for 25 years, encouraging creative growth and development in her students. Apart from her native South Africa, she has taught and exhibited internationally in Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Canada and the US, and was nominated for the Professional Quilter Magazine's "Teacher of the Year" award in 2007. Her work, which reflects her passion for color, design and texture, is characterized by its wild mix of fabrics and is in several private and public collections. www.rosaliedace.co.za

Jo Anne Cooper
Jo Anne is co-director of Mobilia Gallery, an internationally known gallery featuring 20th and 21st century decorative arts, sculpture, paintings, textiles and studio jewelry. Cooper has curated many exhibits showcasing American and international artists that have included lectures, symposiums, traveling exhibition and catalogs which provide a deeper understanding of the decorative arts and the creative process. Cooper attended the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and the California College of the Arts. She has given presentations for The Museum of Fine Arts, Skinner Auctioneers, The Fuller Craft Museum, and The Craft Alliance.

Lasse Antonsen - Prize Juror
Lasse Antonsen was born in Copenhagen, Denmark where he studied art and creative writing. After moving to the US,  Antonsen continued his studies at the Harvard University Extension Program and Tufts University where he received an MA in art history. Antonsen has worked as a researcher at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, and as curator of the Danforth Museum of Art. He was director of the University Art Gallery at University of Massachusetts Dartmouth for twenty-five years. As an art historian he has taught graduate courses at Rhode Island School of Design, and currently teaches at Massachusetts College of Art. As an artist he has created multiple installations, and is currently featured at the Museum of Natural History in Providence. In 2012, his work was included in exhibitions in Brooklyn at Proteus Gowanus, and in Jersey City at Curious Matter.
 
Executive Consultant 
Eugenia Barnes is a professional quiltmaker, teacher and lecturer. She is a certified quilt appraiser, a founding member of the AQS Appraisal and Certification program, and listed in  "Who's Who in American Quilting." She resides in Marcellus, NY.

SAQA Central Canada Members donate work to Annual SAQA Benefit Auction

Special Thanks to each of the artists in our SAQA Central Canada region who have sent their beautiful  Art Quilts to SAQA for the Annual Benefit Auction which opens on September 9, 2013.

The donation of art is vital to the continued success in fundraising to support the ongoing work of the Studio Art Quilt Associates organization and the sharing that is done internationally as SAQA Exhibitions travel to amazing and diverse locations to be seen and enjoyed by thousands of visitors each year.

There are several lovely downtown Belleville Restaurants just a block from the Library/Gallery (highly recommend Thai House Cuisine). Take Exit 62 south off the 401, and blend onto Front Street. Follow Front to the "y" and blend left onto Pinnacle Street. The Library sits on the west side of the street. Parking is on street with a small lot just west of the Library with all day parking.
