SAQA 2014 Anniversary Trunk Show
OPEN to ALL SAQA members

Join SAQA in celebrating our 25th amazing year with your trunk show submission! This traveling exhibition asks SAQA members to create a 10" x 7" art quilt that showcases their artistic expression.

The 2014 Anniversary Trunk Show will premiere at the 2014 SAQA conference in Washington, DC, and then travel all across the United States and around the world.   
  
A group of quilts from this exhibition will be chosen by jurors Linda Colsh and Margaret "Peg" Keeney to become a permanent part of the collection of the National Quilt Museum in Paducah, Kentucky.

Submissions for the 2014 Anniversary Trunk Show must meet the following criteria:
    *Quilted pieces must have three layers, and measure 10" high x 7" wide (25.4 x 17.8 cm) in a PORTRAIT orientation. All embellishments must fit within the 10" x 7" size.
    *SAQA will mount artwork on a 12 x 9" black backing board.
    *Quilts could travel for up to three years. They must stay with the Trunk during the entire exhibition period.
    *Participation fee is $10 to cover cost of materials and return shipping.
    *If you wish your quilt to be for sale, please indicate its price on the entry form. (Otherwise,
    *Due to the constraints of international travel costs, SAQA will not be insuring this exhibition. An insurance waiver is included in the form.       
Quilts are due no later than Friday, January 31, 2014 to the SAQA 2014 Trunk Show Coordinator, Eileen Doughty.

Let's shoot for collection of quilts for fall 2013 meetings and share the costs of sending them to SAQA collection point. I am sure this will be a great surprise as a SAQA receiver opens the box with MANY Central Canada contributions.

Threadworks is a juried exhibition that is mounted every three years and travels across Ontario to many museums and galleries. This year, the interpretive theme is "Water". SAQA Central Canada members who have work in the exhibition include Janet Rhind, Gunnel Hag, Phillida Hargreaves, Janine Gates, Bethany Garner, Mary Cope, Maggie Vanderweit, Robin Field, Helen Gordon, Dwayne Wanner, Hilary Rice and Hilary Scanlon. Food: Coffee, tea, juice and some snacks provided. Please bring finger-food snacks to share and/or a brown-bag lunch - no facilities at the College, though Tims/Restaurants nearby
Please park in the front of the building and enter the college main front doors. Follow the corridor to the left in front of the Marianne Van Silfhout Gallery. The Room will be on your left as you round the corridor, down the hallway behind the Gallery. Watch for signage.

SAQA Central, Synthesis II in Almonte



Synthesis II will be hung at the Chambers Gallery, Mississippi Mills Administration Building, 3131 Old Perth Road, Almonte, ON on Thursday, May 9 and will run until Tuesday, June 4. The Chambers Gallery is open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The show will be on display at the Corridor Gallery, Almonte Public Library, 155 High Street, Almonte from Tuesday, June 4 to July 2.

The Corridor Gallery is open Mon., Tues. and Thur. from 2:00 to 8:30 p.m; Wed. from 10:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and on Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturdays, from 10:00 to 4.  Some Examples of work in the show follow.

Congratulations to ANN BIRD of Ottawa and JUDITH MARTIN Martin of Manitoulin Island who have had their work selected for the "O CANADA" Exhibition that is part of the International Quilt Festival.


Ann wrote "Received some news that I have a quilt included in this exhibition. Northern Lights 8 has been selected for inclusion in the special exhibit O, Canada 2013, which will premiere at International Quilt Festival in Chicago June 21-23, 2013.  22 quilts were chosen". 

Something More Magical Than It Ever Was, a log cabin quilt that Judy Martin made in 1991 has also been selected as part of this exhibit
   
The exhibit is scheduled to travel in 2013 to various International Quilt Festival and Market sponsored shows including Long Beach, California in July and Houston October 26-November 3, 2013.
